Nailsea and District Local History Society – initially Nailsea Local History Society – was established in 1975 to promote an interest in, and research into, the local history of the area. It has also a concern for the present and future environment of Nailsea and area.

The Society is open to all and meets on the second Monday of the month, September to May, in the Green Lecture Theatre at Nailsea School, Mizzymead Road, Nailsea, BS48 2HN. Here we have talks on a range of topics related to local history in the widest sense. An evening visit and a Social Evening are normally held in the months of June and July. There is no meeting in August.

The Society is very much part and parcel of the community whose history it records. Members have assisted people from all over the world with their enquiries about the history of the area. However, we are not a Family History Society and do not hold ancestral records.

As part of its aim, the Society is also active in raising awareness of, and ensuring proper consultation on, development matters that may impact upon the historical landscape of Nailsea and surrounding district, and on its built environment.

We publish a twice yearly A5 journal, “History & Heritage Matters” which is free to members as part of their annual subscription.
